HISTORY

The Sea Star is a Bergantine boat, which has two masts, and is rigged with square sails; which means, sails set on the masts hanging from yards running transversely in relation to the longitudinal axis of the vessel (from prow to stern).
The Bergantine appeared in the second half of the XVII century and was used for general purposes until the XIX century. It was known for its large carriage capacity of up to 600 tons, despite the fact that the bergantine vessels were extremely fast, agile to manoeuvre and suitable for intercontinental traffic.
The bergantines were used for commercial trade but also as corsairs, thanks to their superior speed, which allowed them to escape from warships and frigates and overtake any kind of merchant traffic. Thus, the armadas (fleets) also incorporated the Bergantine, which normally transported up to a dozen pieces on deck for exploration and fighting against piratry.
