En esta zona se hallan construcciones prehistóricas como los dólmenes y menhires que se pueden encontrar por los alrededores.

Otras construcciones históricas que se conservan son los restos de varias villas romanas, como la Villa Romana dels Ametllers.

La siguiente construcción y más importante que encontraremos son las famosas murallas de la Vila Vella, construidas para la defensa en los ataques de los piratas entre el siglo XII y XIII. En el siglo XVI, se construye la Torre de Can Magí fuera de las murallas.

En lo que queda de su historia, ya no se realizan construcciones de especial interés. Lo que sí encontramos es el nacimiento de un fuerte corriente artístico catalán en el siglo XIX. Aparte de los artistas del país, llegan artistas de todo el mundo para impregnarse de la magia de Tossa. Marc Chagall, uno de los artistas más importantes del surrealismo, la bautizó con el nombre de "Paraíso azul" en 1933.

El tiempo pasa y llega la revolución turística de los años 60. El municipio se moderniza y se realizan construcciones hoteleras, bares y restaurantes, pero siempre conservando el medio y la unidad del casco urbano.
