In this area, prehistoric constructions, such as the dolmens and menhirs can be found on the outskirts.
Other historic constructions which still exist are the remains of several Roman villas, such as the RomanVilla of Ametllers.

The next and most important construction we will find are the famous city walls of the Vila Vella, built for defence from pirate attacks between the 12th and 13th century. In the 16th century, the Can Magí Tower is built outside the city walls.

Throughout the rest of its history, there aren’t really any constructions of special interest. What we do find, however, is the birth of a solid Catalan artistic trend in the 19th century. Besides the countrys’ artists, artists from all over the world arrive to soak in the magic of Tossa. Marc Chagall, one of the most important surrealist artists, christened it with the name "blue paradise" in 1933.
Time passes and the tourist revolution of the 60s arrives. The municipality up-dates itself and builds hotels, bars and restaurants, but always preserving the surroundings and the unity of the city centre.
