History - Points of interest - Beaches - The City

Carnaval:

One of the city’s most famous festivals. It features a parade of floats and groups of people all along the seafront followed by a dance. It’s celebrated in February.

Sant Jordi:

National Catalan festival celebrated the 23rd of April. Traditionally, the men give a rose to the women and the women give a book to the men, in tribute to the legend of Sant Jordi and the dragon. The Sant Feliu rambla (boulevard) fills with stands selling roses and books.

Aplec of Pedralta:

Popular trail to Pedralta, where various events are celebrated, such as childrens’ shows, habaneras (local songs that were sung by fishermen) ... It’s a local festival. It’s usually celebrated the third week of May.

Festa de Sant Joan:

Festival consisting of night-time festivities with large bon fires and firecrackers all night long in celebration of the start of summer and the shortest night of the year. It's celebrated the 23rd of June. It’s a fiesta that is celebrated all over Catalonia.

International Festival of the Porta Ferrada:

This is one of the most important festivals in Catalonia. It features many artistic elements such as theatre, music and dance. It usually lasts all summer long.

Festa Major:

Traditional festival celebrated in all the towns of Catalonia, but on different dates. Sant Feliu’s is from the 1st to the 4th of August. Concerts, correfocs (fire-running), refreshment stalls and fireworks make up this local festival.

Sant Feliu Fest:

International independent music festival. Organized by the Atzavara Club association, which, for ten years, has been bringing in Today’s best bands in the world from the most independent musical panorama. Usually celebrated the weekend following the Festa Major.

September 11th:

National Catalan holiday in which the people commemorate the defeat suffered by Catalonia in 1714 at the hands of the Spanish troops of Felipe V de Borbón. Catalonia, which up until that time had been a sovereign nation, lost national freedoms, the very laws of the country, and suffered repression against its culture and language, a political situation that exists even today. On this day, various acts and ceremonies take place, such as the hanging of the senyera (national Catalan flag) from the balconies of private homes, demonstrations, concerts and floral tributes to the deceased defenders of the “Catalán Lands.”
