History - Festivals - Beaches - The City

Monastery of Sant Feliu de Guíxols:

Built in 968, over time it has undergone many renovations and new construction work. We’d like to highlight 5 parts of the Monastery:

The “Iron door”: It is believed to be the entrance to a Carolingian palace.

The “smoke tower”: from the 10th to the 12th century.

Gothic church, from the 14th to the 15th century.

Vestry, from 16th to the 17th century.

Arch of Sant Benet, from the 18th century.

Sant Elm Hermitage:

Built in 1723, it affords one of the best views of the coast. It is said that the current name of this coast, "Costa Brava", originated here.

Pedralta:

It is one of the largest tilting rocks in Europe. In this corner, there’s a magnificent viewpoint from which all the towns surrounding Sant Feliu can be seen.

The promenade:

Sand path which goes from one point of Sant Feliu to the other, along the beach. This is where the Sardana musical performances, sports and social events are held, as well as where you can find the city’s most emblematic restaurants and the marvellous Casino de la Constancia.

Casino la Constancia:

Built in 1888 with a modernist influence. Despite the variety of leisure options the city has to offer, people continue going to the casino to play "botifarra", a very popular card game in Catalonia.

Casa Patxot Sundial:

Unique testimony to the manor houses that were built on the seafront over the old medieval city. Currently the Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Navigation.

Manor houses:

Although on the seafront, only the casa Patxot remains, there are still several manor houses spread out around the city. The most famous are: casa Albertí (end of 19th century), casa de la Campana (1911), casa Gaziel (1880), casa Girbau (1910), casa Maynegre (1898), casa Maruny (1909), casa Pecher (1894), casa Ribot (1904), casa Sala (1904) and casa Sibils (1892).

The Town Hall:

Built in 1547, it was enlargened with a tower in 1847. With the passage of time it has gradually updated itself in order to meet the current needs.

The old train station:

Currently used as a public school, this station linked Sant Feliu de Guíxols with Girona, passing through the Aro Valley. It was built between 1889 and 1892. In 1969 the line was shut down due to lack of use and to the use of other modes of transport, such as the bus.

Casa Irla:

House where the former President of the Generalitat, Josep Irla, lived. The house has been renovated and hosts different events such as conferences and concerts. The Josep Irla museum is scheduled to open soon.
